Oyo state Deputy Commissioner of Police dialogue with agitating youths and stakeholders as AOPE school gate reopens

The Oyo State government has ordered that Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa school gate that was earlier locked by the agitating youths be reopened with immediate effect.

DCP Waheed Ayilara in his visit to Eruwa town today to observe the situation and calm the atmosphere met with the Council of Elders, Eruwa Security Committee, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic Eruwa Chapter, AOPE Students' Union and members of Eruwa Youth Movement.

The president of Eruwa Youth Movement Kunle Adebola said the agitation of youth that led to locking of the school gate and burning of tyres to barricade the entrance is due to the need for a substantive rector instead of an acting one in the institution

"Our intention was not to make the agitation last more than a day but was prolonged due to slow response of the state government."

In his words with each of the stakeholders, the DCP urged everyone to allow peace to reign noting that Engineer Seyi Makinde is putting efforts in place to ensure there is peace within the institution and in the community at large.

"Everyone has right to agitate but such agitation must not encroach on other people's right. The closure of the school gate is affecting the students and the management which shouldn't be so."

Adding that Government system is a process and decisions are not just arrived at in a moment but could take some time. This is to ensure a proper solution and to avoid recurrence.

While addressing the Students' Union members led by Comrade Musa Aanuoluwapo, he said students should be dissuaded from joining the protest as it would mar the purpose of which they came to school.

A meeting had earlier been held at the Police Divisional Headquarters by the DCP, DPO Lawani Godwin with the Elders of the community, Academic Staff Union of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa and the Students' Union before a convergence at the school gate for dialogue.

Chief Joseph Peluola, Chairman Eruwa Council of Elders and Chief Samson Olaoye, Chairman Security Committee of Eruwa gave their words to ensure peace is restored and total compliance by the agitating youths to allow the flow of activities on campus. The ASUP Chaiman in Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa, Engineer Adejuwon Samuel also promises tranquility.
