The management of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa has concluded her orientation program for the newly admitted ND and HND students for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The program had earlier began on Monday 7th June 2021 with a tour around the school by the Dean Students Affairs, Pastor Ibukun Adewusi and the Students Affairs Officer, Pastor Sunday Ola. The essence of the program as said by the Dean is mainly to introduce the students to the system and to introduce the system to the students. For the students to know how to relate and to familiarize the students with the norms of the institution.
On Tuesday, 8th June, the Academic Affairs Officer, Mr Olarenwaju enlightened the freshers on the need for early registration. In his words ''all students must register before attending lectures." He said it is to confirm students enrolment status. He therefore urged the students to know their strength and weakness as regarding their academics on campus.
Also present was the Director of the Directorate of Digital Technology Service, Engineer Fawole.
On Wednesday, 9th June, The Medical Director at the school clinic Dr Eyitayo SanniOba instructed the new students on how to go about Health centre medical registration. He talked about the need to be mentally and emotionally stable in other to aid academic excellence. He adviced them to take care of their health by engaging in regular exercise, drinking adequate amount of water, regular hand washing, taking balanced diet, keeping away from alcohol and smoking, avoiding self medication.
The Director of Directorate of Vocational Skills and Entrepreneurship Studies DVSES Engr Ayanrinde also spoke on the Roles of entrepreneurship education. He described it as a key driver of the economy. The mission of the Directorate according to him is "to take all measure to influence, create and inculcate entrepreneurial mindset within and outside the institution." Presently, there are 13 vocational skills that the students can acquire.
On Thursday, 10th June, the students were exposed to Benefits of ICT to career development by staff officials of Resource Enhancers Globalink Limited, Lagos. Instructor Salawu listed the types of IT certifications available to the students, Fortinet NSE Network Security Expert, CISCO certified networking associate, Digital marketing, CISCO cyber security and gave reasons for certification. He added that students would be provided with four different certifications after their diploma programmes.
Moving on, the school counselor Mrs Ojelabi spoke on the Importance of adjustment and self efficiency to academic excellence. She charged the students to inculcate good time management skill, self discipline, determination and diligence.
On security, The Chief Security Officer of the institution Mr John Ojedokun explained the roles of security on institution and students.
On Friday, 11th June, Mr Taofeek Lawal the director at the Directorate of Part-time Professional Studies (DPPS) presented a paper titled Examination malpractice: causes and effects. He identified the types of examination malpractice as: collusion among candidates, impersonation, giraffing, inscription, irregular activities, scientific malpractice, bribery and intimidation. The reasons are craze for certificate, pressure on students, desire for parents to have children in choice profession. He admonished the students to shun this act at all cost.
Furthermore, the Dean of Faculty of Science, Mr Rafiu explained the grade point calculation to enable them weigh their academic performances themselves.
The orientation program ended with religious orientation where the Ameer of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria MSSN led the muslim students to the Central Mosque and the President of the Central Christian Body led the Christian faithfuls to the school chapel.
Present at the program was the Faculty deans, members of the management and the Students Union Executive, Comr. MUSA led regime.
